Controller

The Controller will manage all accounting and financial operations for a professional services environment with both commercial and residential project work. This role combines hands-on accounting leadership with strategic financial planning, requiring strong project accounting capabilities and experience in design, architecture, or construction-related industries. The position involves oversight of financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and providing financial insights to senior leadership.

What you will be doing

• Oversee all accounting department functions including project accounting, profitability analysis, and budget monitoring
• Manage work orders, invoices, purchase orders, and maintain communication with clients, contractors, and suppliers
• Prepare project cash flow statements, Work-In-Progress reports, and reconcile project accounts
• Lead payroll administration and supervise accounts payable and receivable operations
• Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy
• Provide strategic financial insights and guidance to senior management
• Oversee financial forecasting, business cash flow management, budgeting, and audit preparation

What the role requires

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation highly desirable
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant
• Prior experience in interior design, architecture, or real estate development industries preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated project management success within a financial context
• Experience with payroll, AP/AR, account analysis, reconciliations, and implementing accounting systems and internal controls
