What your resume should make obvious

Screeners spend seconds on a first pass. For this role, these are the things worth putting where they will be seen.

  • Quantify your client portfolio: number of relationships managed, total assets under advisement, or client retention rates
  • Highlight business development results: new clients acquired, pipeline conversion rates, or revenue generated
  • Specify the breadth of planning services you have delivered: list which of investments, retirement, tax, estate, and cash flow planning you have direct experience with
  • Demonstrate team leadership: note if you have led client engagements, managed fieldwork teams, or coordinated with specialists
  • Show both designations clearly with years held and any relevant continuing education
  • Include evidence of client-facing communication: presentations delivered, complex plan development, or relationship management across multiple stakeholders

Where people in this role usually come from

Candidates typically come from financial planning or wealth advisory roles where they have held both CPA and CFP designations and have progressed into client-facing positions with business development responsibilities. Experience may include time in accounting or audit environments before transitioning to comprehensive financial planning.
